Tori's Tri - In Memory of Victoria Seay

Tori's Tri will be held on July 21, 2007 here in Vancouver to celebrate the life and commemorate the unfortunate death of Canadian Olympic hopeful and Canadian World Championship duathelete. You can find her story here.

I had the honor of being in a running class that she taught here in Vancouver and was always amazed at the grace and agility of Tori when she would run effortlessly while the rest of us huffed and puffed in desperation trying to keep up with her.

Godspeed, wherever she may be.

Transformers Cybertron: Optimus Prime and Saber Wing

Transformer - Optimus PrimeWith all the excitement around the upcoming Transformers movie, there's a great crop of new "old generation" Transformers toys on the market; I was at Costco today and came across a whole pile of Optimus Prime and Saber Wing sets. If I had a place to put these on my overflowing desk, I'd be getting a set of these in a heartbeat!

Bodyworlds 3 Exhibition in Vancouver

Bodyworlds 3 opens today in Vancouver. I remember reading about this back in the 90s but missed my opportunity to see the exhibit when it was in Tokyo. I'm looking forward to being able to see it here in Vancouver and was quite surprised to hear that the Catholic church was calling for a boycott on the radio. It's incredible to see what an absolute hypocrisy religion can be sometimes; on one hand they are putting so much pressure on the anti-abortion, avoid birth control because life is precious issue, but at the same time, they cannot even look the human body without extreme prejudice.

Paul Schratz, spokesperson for the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Vancouver, said the archdiocese cannot endorse the exhibit, Body Worlds 3: The Anatomical Exhibition of Real Human Bodies, which opens at Telus World of Science, Sept. 15.

"So far we haven't issued a formal statement on the exhibit," said Schratz. "But according to the Catholic Church the body is sacred and should be treated with respect at all times. We have major concerns that level of respect is not being met."

Hell, the fact that it's educational and from what I've been told, the fetus exhibit alone would be enough to show that life IS precious and not just a lump of flesh; besides, do I really care if it's been endorsed by the church? I think not...

AOL User Search Query Data Leak

Earlier this month, AOL made major tech headlines news with the deliberate release of some three months of search query data covering more than a half million user search queries and results.

Totalling about 500MB in compressed format, the database can be easily found on the Internet whether via direct download or through Bittorrent. Likewise, instructions on how to best get the data into usable form and creating a search form to parse the data are quickly coming available.
