Once you have created your ads, decided on the ad layout, color, etc., it's important to keep on top of how your ads are doing using the right tools.
Before you get too excited about thinking you can click on your own ads and make yourself a millionaire, be warned that Google highly discourages this practice and you can be kicked out of the program if you are caught doing so.
Where possible, avoid viewing your own ads continuously (drupal, for example, allows me to disable the ad block when I'm logged in and editing the site) and again, avoid clicking on your own ads.
Hear is a short list of tools you can use to preview, fine tune, and optimize your AdSense ad strategy.
Google's own AdSense Preview Tool
Windows-based tool to preview your website with the relevant AdSense ads.
TechnoBloggie's AdSense Preview Tool
Use this to preview your URL to determine what AdSense ads will be published to your site.
TechnoBloggie's AdSense Search Tool
Use this to determine approximately how much an approximate word might be worth.
Yahoo Overture's Keyword Inventory Search

Yahoo Overture's Keyword Bid Calculator

Digitalpoint.com's Keyword Suggestion Tool>/a>
Use this tool as an alternative to see what words are generating traffic on the search engines.
Digitalpoint.com's AdSense Sandbox Tool
Use this tool to test out what ads will be generated for a certain keyword.
Rank's Keyword Density Analyzer
Use this too to test out your keyword density statistics.

A good way to avoid losing your account is to check out their terms of service and then checking out their recommendations. The two are not the same. Google does not recommend certain parctices due to the possiblity of repeat clicks.

yes, I agree, many people simply forget to read the terms and conditions of Adsense, and they can easily get themselves banned from Google by making silly and simple mistakes.
