iKnow: Social Learning For Free

iknowiKnow is a new website I came across that provides its users with a "community site for learning languages powered by personalized learning tools [...] built on a suite of software applications based on years of scientific research into memory and effective learning methods.

Following similar learning software trends such as Nintendo's popular "Brain Age" series, iKnow uses the theory of spaced repetition backed with some proprietary learning algorithms to ensure that the content you learn is what you need to be learning at that particular point in time.

So far, it's free to sign up and begin learning with obvious targets being those learning languages where this type of content is particularly strong in.

Hacking the Apple TV

The highly touted Apple TV has been out for less than a week and despite its apparent claimed weaknesses, it's pretty clear that those were for appearances only and in fact, the Apple TV is capable of much more.

Already, the internal 40GB hard drive is already shown to be upgradeable with both Engadget and Gizmodo posting their experiences.

There have also been initial reports of being able to install Xvid as well as OS X Automator-savvy solutions already being published on how to easily convert "non-compatible" video formats to something that the Apple TV can play.

Apple has pulled a quick one over the DRM-crazy folks by getting this one under the radar with the seemingly restrictive specs that it would "only" play content from the iTunes Store. If those parties actually fell for that, they truly are stupider and non-understanding of their customer base than we think...
